Saurimo: The debt of customers of the National Electricity Distribution Company (ENDE) in Angolan northwestern province of Lunda-Sul, accumulated from December 2025 to the present date, exceeds five billion kwanzas, according to the provincial director of the institution, Cristiano Santana, on Sunday in Saurimo. According to Angola Press News Agency, the director stated that the debts were incurred by public and private entities, stressing that the company has been negotiating with debtors to pay in installments. He emphasized that after the end of the eight-day dialogue and negotiation period, ENDE will carry out coercive disconnections for defaulting consumers. The municipalities of Saurimo, Cassengo, and Muangueji are identified as the largest debtors. Cristiano Santana also expressed concern about the destruction of goods and services, as well as the theft of public lighting cables. These acts, he noted, jeopardize the extension of the electricity grid to other areas. The financial resources meant for g rid expansion are instead being used to replace stolen or damaged materials. Lunda-Sul is currently served by two thermal power plants of 19 and 25 megawatts, benefiting 30,600 consumers, 1,700 of whom are on the prepaid system. Additionally, a photovoltaic plant with 44,850 solar panels produces 49,000 MWh/year, serving thousands of people in the region.
