Luanda: At least 29 people have died following heavy rains in Angola's provinces of Luanda and Benguela, a report from the Civil Protection and Firefighters (SPCB) said on Monday. The severe weather conditions have led to significant destruction and disruptions across the affected regions. According to Angola Press News Agency, the SPCB reported the collapse of 114 houses and damage to 19 others in Benguela. The rains also impacted 12 boats, with nine rescued and three removed. Additionally, four vehicles were swept away by the rising waters. In the capital city of Luanda, the report noted six deaths, one missing person, and a total of 33,785 individuals affected, representing 6,757 families. The infrastructure suffered considerably, with 6,752 houses flooded, four damaged, and one completely destroyed. The heavy rains also resulted in six trees falling, three retention basins overflowing, two power poles falling, and three health posts getting flooded, among other damages. The situation has prompted local authorities to engage in ongoing relief and recovery efforts to assist those impacted by the disaster.
