Homegrown Tourism: Families Discover the Hidden Treasures of Ouagadougou and Ziniar©

Ouagadougou: In a national context marked by a decline in foreign tourist numbers, families took part on Saturday, July 27, 2025, in a tourist getaway through Ouagadougou and Ziniar©, to allow them to rediscover the wonders of their own heritage. "It is a duty to promote the tourism sector in our country," said Sim©on Zongo, promoter of the Grajola International agency.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Burkina Faso's tourism potential remains unknown to some, hence the need for local initiatives. "When we realize that we have a lot of wealth in terms of tourism, and that this is unknown, we needed an initiative like this," Zongo explained. During the trip, participants were able to visit the National Museum of Burkina Faso, the Ziniar© animal sanctuary as well as the famous granite sculptures of Laongo, emblematic sites of the Central Plateau region.

Faced with the scarcity of foreign visitors, domestic tourism is becoming an essential option. "It goes without saying that we can develop initiatives to promote domestic tourism," Zongo argued. Participants welcomed the initiative with enthusiasm. Oumou Compaor©, a participant, said, "We discovered many wonders. There are animals I wouldn't have known about if it weren't for TV. But thanks to this getaway, I discovered them." She added, "In any case, it's a pleasure to be able to participate in this activity. I'm really delighted."

Student Evariste Kabor© added: "The initiative is very good. We saw lions, hippos, hyenas... Since we were born, we had never seen these animals." Praising the organization, he hoped that Grajola International would continue on this path. Given the success of this first edition, the organizers announce other tourist getaways to come, always with the spirit of promoting the country's riches through the eyes of its own sons and daughters.
