Hungary Seeks to Strengthen Cooperation with Angola Across Multiple Domains

Luanda: Hungarian ambassador to Angola, Andr¡s Fazekas, announced Thursday in Luanda that Hungary is willing to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Angola in the technical, scientific, academic, and economic domains. This announcement came during a meeting with National Assembly Speaker, Ado de Almeida, where both parties assessed the current state of bilateral relations and identified new domains for cooperation.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Hungary has maintained friendly and cooperative relations with Angola since recognizing its independence in 1975. Currently, initiatives are underway in the sectors of education, scientific research, civil documentation, and aviation. In the academic field, Hungary annually provides 50 scholarships for Angolan students, fully funded by the Hungarian government.

In the technological sphere, a Hungarian company is involved in supplying the new Angolan biometric passports, with additional joint projects in various sectors under analysis. Scientific cooperation includes research programs in Angola, such as a project to protect red-footed falcons in Huambo province, a species first identified in Angola in the 19th century by a Hungarian explorer, associated with the initial European studies on Angolan fauna.

The ambassador noted reassurances about Angola's continued openness to bilateral cooperation, fostering expectations of strengthened relations between the two countries in the foreseeable future. Relations between Angola and Hungary, formally established in 1977, are experiencing a phase of strategic expansion, concentrating on economic diversification, technology transfer, and enhancing air connectivity between Luanda and Budapest.

Currently, bilateral cooperation encompasses sectors such as infrastructure, health, aviation, and agriculture. Initiatives are also in progress to attract Hungarian investors, universities, and tour operators to Angola.
