New york: Angola and the Philippines discussed on Thursday ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in several areas, particularly training, aquaculture, agriculture, and multilateral coordination, during a meeting held on Wednesday in New York. The discussions took place on the sidelines of the International Migration Review Forum at the United Nations Headquarters and were attended by the Angolan Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Communities, Domingos Cust³dio Vieira Lopes, and his Filipino counterpart, Jainal Rasul.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the two parties recognized the gradual evolution of the bilateral relations, which are based on cordiality, mutual respect, and shared interests in various sectors. In the economic and scientific fields, the two countries expressed interest in expanding cooperation in the transfer of knowledge related to agricultural technologies, fertilizers, forestry, and natural resource management.
The meeting also covered academic and scientific exchange between diplomatic training institutions and research centers. Domingos Lopes stated that Angola considers the Philippines to be a significant Asian partner with the capacity to enhance bilateral cooperation and coordination on multilateral issues, particularly within the United Nations framework.
The Angolan diplomat also identified opportunities for cooperation in manufacturing, technology, agriculture, fishing, tourism, and technical training. He mentioned that the Philippines' experience in marine resource management, aquaculture, and industrial fishing could help Angola to leverage its maritime and fishing potential. The two delegations also addressed topics of common interest related to the United Nations agenda.
