Luanda: The Higher Polytechnic Institute of Technologies and Sciences (ISPTEC) and the American Chamber of Commerce in Angola (AmCham-Angola) have signed a cooperation protocol in Luanda to strengthen academic, scientific, and technological ties between Angola and the United States of America (USA). The agreement is designed to boost scientific research, technological innovation, and human capital development by fostering closer links between higher education institutions and research centers in both countries.
According to Angola Press News Agency, ISPTEC Rector Joo Fernando Manuel stated that the protocol marks "the beginning of an era of cooperation with America," as it enables the institution to increase its international visibility and develop projects in fields such as technology, the energy transition, fertilizers, and scientific research. He noted that the initiative complements existing international partnerships-including the one established with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)-by opening up new opportunities for collaboration with North American universities and research centers.
Meanwhile, AmCham-Angola President Pedro Godinho remarked that the signing of the protocol realizes a long-held goal of the organization, asserting that Angola's sustainable development depends on continuous investment in education and knowledge. He noted that the Chamber has already established contact with institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania, Carnegie Mellon University, and the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and is also working to bring Liberty University to Angola.
According to Pedro Godinho, the initiative involves developing projects in fields such as robotics, drone manufacturing, and technologies applied to the oil, mining, and agricultural sectors. He further highlighted that ISPTEC, in coordination with the newly inaugurated Luanda Science and Technology Park, is well-positioned to host initiatives of this scale. He reiterated AmCham-Angola's commitment to youth skills development and the country's scientific and technological advancement.
Founded in 2017, the American Chamber of Commerce in Angola is a non-profit association dedicated to strengthening commercial, economic, academic, and cultural ties between Angola and the United States.
