Luanda: The Minister of State for Economic Coordination, Jos© de Lima Massano, on Thursday in Luanda identified economic diversification as the foundation for Angola's recovery and its consolidation as Africa's sixth-largest economy. The minister was speaking at the 2026 edition awards ceremony of the Angola Private Investment and Exports Promotion Agency (AIPEX) and took the opportunity to highlight the performance of various sectors besides oil, such as telecommunications, transport, agriculture, and tourism, among others.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the minister emphasized that Angola once held the aforementioned position and lost it due to a long period of economic downturn. He recalled that the government adopted a set of macroeconomic frameworks that have been yielding concrete results. "Today, the country's inflation rate is at its lowest level since 2015, the result of an economy finding new foundations for diversification," said the minister.
From an economic perspective, agriculture could lead the commercial sector while the oil sector remains strategic to the economy. The minister highlighted the resumption of policies protecting private investment and infrastructure investment, noting that Angola now has improved mobility, and increased access to energy, water, and knowledge, which all contribute to a more dynamic economy.
Jos© de Lima Massano also warned that the major challenge is ensuring that growth generates direct benefits for the population. He stressed that the economy must be inclusive, with a focus on sustainability. "Angola is currently the 6th largest economy on the continent and the 3rd largest in sub-Saharan Africa," he concluded.
In turn, the Chairman of the Board of AIPEX, Arlindo Rangel, argued that investing in Angola should become increasingly simple and that exporting national products should be easier. He stated that the award serves as a platform to highlight the value of private investment and exports, recognizing companies, investors, and exporters for their innovation and contribution to national production.
