Luanda: The Italian Embassy in Angola is set to open the "Italy-Angola" exhibition on Thursday at the Dr. Ant³nio Agostinho Neto Memorial, marking 50 years of diplomatic and friendly relations initiated in 1976.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the exhibition will be accompanied by a concert performed by the National Orchestra of Angola and conducted by Italian maestro Larenzo Turchi-Floris. Turchi-Floris, a pianist and composer with international recognition, has previously collaborated with the Kaposoka Orchestra of Angola.
The cooperative ties between Angola and Italy are rooted in a Memorandum signed in 1977, which led to the establishment of the Bilateral Commission, initially known as the Joint Cooperation Commission. The Air Transport Agreement, the first legal document of this partnership, was signed on April 10, 1976.
Italy considers Angola as its third largest trading partner in sub-Saharan Africa, following South Africa and Nigeria. Since 1989, the Italian government has prioritized Angola within its cooperation strategy in the region.
The cooperation between the two nations saw further enhancement in 2023 during Angolan President Joo Louren§o's state visit to Italy. This visit resulted in the signing of several cooperation agreements, particularly focusing on oil, transport, finance, and health sectors.
