More Than 500 Rapid Intervention Police Officers Complete Specialized Course

Calumbo: At least 524 Rapid Intervention Police (PIR) personnel completed the 10th basic police specialization course today in the municipality of Calumbo, province of Icolo e Bengo. The training, which took place at the PIR Instruction Center, was conducted from March 7, 2025, to May 8, 2026. It comprised three phases, focusing on military instruction, police norms and tactics, and specialization in anti-riot and anti-terrorism techniques.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the 2nd general commander of the National Police, chief commissioner Orlando Paulo Bernardo, remarked that the course's completion coincides with the 34th anniversary of the PIR's existence, emphasizing its growth and maturity. He urged the graduates to maintain strict discipline, operational readiness, patriotic spirit, and adhere to legality.

Orlando Bernardo reiterated that as a special tactical reserve force, the PIR requires total dedication and courage to address high-risk crime and enhance national security and defense. Chief commissioner M¡rio Queir³s Marquªs, the National Commander of the Rapid Intervention Police, highlighted efforts by the General Command of the National Police towards restructuring and rejuvenating the PIR by integrating young personnel with technical-police and academic training.

The PIR National Commander also instructed the personnel to be prepared to execute missions anywhere in the territory as needed. Founded on June 4, 1992, the PIR is an elite force designed to handle exceptionally complex situations where regular police forces are unable to intervene.
