Luanda: Mozambique's state-owned telecommunications company, Mo§ambique Telecom (TMCEL), has recently begun Proof of Concept (PoC) trials using ANGOSAT-2, under cooperation agreements signed with Angola in the fields of space and communications.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the trials aim to assess the use of the Angolan satellite's capacity for the provision of telecommunications services in Mozambique, marking a further step in the implementation of the memorandums signed in June on the sidelines of the 5th National Communications Conference held in Maputo.
The National Space Programme Management Office (GGPEN) stated that the initiative involving TMCEL follows the successful trials carried out by Televiso de Mo§ambique (TVM), which also launched a PoC project to transmit its signal through ANGOSAT-2.
The TVM trials delivered positive results, and the parties are preparing to move towards a commercial agreement that will enable the distribution of the Mozambican public broadcaster's signal across the country through the Angolan satellite.
With TMCEL entering the testing phase, ANGOSAT-2 is strengthening its presence in the regional market, demonstrating the potential of Angola's space infrastructure to support telecommunications and broadcasting operators in other African countries.
Cooperation between Angola and Mozambique also forms part of the strategy to expand ANGOSAT-2-related services across the region, helping to transform space capacity into practical connectivity and communication solutions for countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
