Managers Tackle Challenges in Angola’s Diamond Market

Lunda-norte: Representatives from mining companies, corporations, the Geological Institute, and the Angolan Diamond Laboratory have been convening since Wednesday in Lunda-Norte province to address issues related to diamond production and sales in Angola.

According to Angola Press News Agency, during the third edition of the semi-annual review of diamond production, Chairpersons, Board Directors, and other managers are presenting summaries of actions, social responsibility projects, and perspectives on economic and environmental sustainability within the diamond subsector. The three-day meeting aims to assess diamond production levels and the current state of both national and international markets, seeking solutions to the low price of natural diamonds and the competition from synthetic diamonds.

At the commencement of the meeting, Endiama's Chairman of the Board of Directors, Ganga Jºnior, emphasized the necessity for strategies to address the ongoing decline in diamond prices on the international market. He highlighted the challenges faced by the diamond mining sector in Angola, noting a 50 percent drop in prices over the last three years despite increased production.

The first day involved discussions on "The Importance of the Mineral Resources Subsector in Social Responsibility" and "Transforming Diamonds into Development," which included clarifications and suggestions for diversifying the economy and generating income. The agenda for Thursday and Friday includes presentations and debates on topics such as "Profitability and sustainability of mining operations," "Principles and good operational practices," "Technological solutions for mining competitiveness," and "Financial solutions for the mining industry."
