National Assembly Approves Bill Targeting False Information Online

Luanda: The National Assembly approved on Thursday a bill to combat the dissemination of false information on the internet, securing 97 votes in favor, 74 against, and three abstentions.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the bill outlines measures to hold individuals and organizations accountable for the deliberate production and spread of false information in the digital realm. It aims to establish a legal framework to prevent and counteract the intentional propagation of false content online.

Although specific penalties for offenders have not yet been determined, deputies emphasize that ongoing parliamentary discussions will clarify preventive mechanisms, while also safeguarding freedom of expression and the right to information.

The bill, structured into five chapters and 29 articles, sets forth various preventive and accountability measures designed to curb the intentional spread of false information.
