MPLA Condemns Sexual Abuse of Minor, Calls for Strict Justice

Luanda: The leader of the MPLA parliamentary group, Reis Jºnior, condemned the recent sexual abuse crime committed against a minor named Belma, whose video circulated widely on social media. He demanded that those responsible be held accountable and called for justice to be served rigorously.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Reis Jºnior, during his quarterly political statement, emphasized the importance of humanism and the absolute protection of children. He stressed that this responsibility lies with the State and is a non-negotiable commitment for society. The lawmaker also highlighted the crucial role of Parliament as Angola's most politically and institutionally relevant representative body, where the sovereign will of the people is expressed.

The MPLA parliamentary group leader reiterated his support for the establishment of local authorities, underlining the necessity for political convergence, institutional dialogue, and a strong sense of state responsibility in parliamentary work. He noted that improving legislative quality is essential for governance, transparency, and the effectiveness of public administration, asserting that laws form the foundation of a just democratic state that serves its citizens.

In the economic context, the MPLA deputy acknowledged the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) commendation of the Angolan government for its successful economic reforms initiated in 2017, which have contributed to the country's economic growth in recent years. He advocated for a combination of structural reforms, fiscal discipline, and efficient management of public resources while protecting the most vulnerable citizens, particularly the youth.

Albertina Navita Ngolo, leader of the opposition UNITA parliamentary group, expressed concerns about economic and social developments, noting the ongoing rise in the cost of living and the inadequacy of the minimum wage. Meanwhile, Florbela Catarina Malaquias, leader of the PHA party, reaffirmed her commitment to building a more humanized society and emphasized the need for dialogue in the legislative process.

Benedito Daniel, from the PRS party, focused on the role of the courts and the Judiciary in consolidating the democratic rule of law. He emphasized that all, including government officials and citizens, must adhere to the law. He warned that any bias or favoritism by some magistrates could undermine public trust in institutions and damage the judiciary's credibility.
