Negage: Athletes from the "Ngueto Maka" Sports Club, winners of the Paralympic National Championship, offered 100 orthopedic mattresses to the Kindoki prison establishment in the municipality of Negage, Uge province. This initiative aims to better accommodate the inmates and is part of the club's commitment to social responsibility, as stated by the president of the sports association, Alcides Maiakala.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the club's successful season, during which they won several trophies, inspired the athletes to express solidarity with individuals in conflict with the law. Alcides Maiakala emphasized the importance of this gesture and expressed the club's intention to continue such actions. He encouraged inmates to view their time in prison as an opportunity for reflection and self-improvement, aiding their future reintegration into society. He also urged for more acts of solidarity, suggesting that positive actions attract further positivity.
Prison Commissioner Virglio Pereira da Silva acknowledged the positive impact of the donation, stating that it would enhance the living conditions of the inmates. He expressed gratitude to the club and encouraged other social institutions to pursue similar initiatives. The Kindoki Prison currently accommodates 586 inmates, with 429 convicted and 157 detained individuals, including four from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In 2025, the Paralympic athletes from Clube Desportivo Ngueto Maka were crowned champions in multiple prestigious tournaments, including the Angola Cup, the 50 Years of National Independence Tournament, the Super Cup, and the National Championship, underscoring their dominance at the national level.
