Pope’s Visit Strengthens Unity and Justice

Luanda: Pope Leo XIV's visit to Angola, from the 18th to the 21st of this month, brings a strong message of faith, unity, and social justice to the Angolan people, said Mother Matilde Filipe this Monday in Luanda.

According to Angola Press News Agency, in statements regarding the meeting with the Angolan religious community, held today at the Parish of Our Lady of Fatima, Sister Matilde Filipe stated that the Supreme Pontiff calls for a deeper experience of faith and the building of unity among Christians. The Mother Superior of the Congregation of the Daughters of St. Paul (Pauline Sisters) highlighted the richness of the Holy Father's homilies, delivered in celebrations held in the provinces of Luanda, Icolo e Bengo, and Lunda-Sul.

For her, the Pope emphasizes unity as essential for strengthening the Church and society. She recalled that the Leader calls on Christians to live more in unity, as it helps to build the Church. According to the nun, Pope Leo XIV also calls for social justice, as he invites Angolans to reflect on the true meaning of justice. 'It's not just about giving each person what is theirs, but ensuring that everyone has a voice and participation in society,' she emphasized.

The nun also highlighted the Pope's role as a global spiritual leader, stating that his influence extends beyond Angola's borders. 'He is the successor of Peter and contributes to the growth of the faith of Christians throughout the world,' she said. Regarding the impact of this visit, Sister Matilde Filipe believes it can profoundly mark the country. 'We hope that this visit touches the hearts of Angolans, promoting unity, hope, peace, and love for one's neighbor,' she declared.

Regarding the future, she said she hopes for a more united church committed to Christian values, aligned with the Holy Father's appeal. Cooperation between Angola and the Holy See also tends to strengthen, not only in the religious field, but also in the social and political dimensions. Sister Matilde Filipe, a theology student, is a member of the Parish of Our Lady of Fatima.

During the meeting, held at the Fatima parish, hundreds of Catholic faithful received the blessing of the Bishop of Rome, in a moment marked by applause and shouts of joy. The visit of Pope Leo XIV to Angola has mobilized thousands of faithful from various locations. It is seen as a moment of strengthening faith and reaffirming the values of love for one's neighbor, social justice, and peaceful coexistence.
