President Joo Lourenço and Mozambican Counterpart Discuss Partnership

Luanda: The presidents of Angola, Joo Lourenço, and Mozambique, Daniel Chapo, on Thursday in Luanda met to discuss the state of bilateral cooperation and coordinate positions regarding the main challenges facing the southern region, as well as the African continent. The meeting took place at the Presidential Palace, on the sidelines of the Angola Investment Summit 2026, an international event taking place from June 17 to 19, promoted by the World Tourism Forum Institute (WTFI), in partnership with the Angolan Government. According to Angola Press News Agency, Angola and Mozambique maintain a historical relationship based on solidarity built during the liberation struggle, which has strengthened over five decades of independence, within the framework of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the African Union (AU), and the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP). In the economic sphere, the capitals of both countries, Luanda and Maputo, have focused on increasing trade, promoting privat e investment, and strengthening productive sectors, namely industry, agriculture, fisheries, energy, and oil. Cooperation between the two countries also encompasses staff training and the sharing of experiences in rural development and agricultural production. In the area of peace and security, Angola continues to monitor the efforts of Mozambican authorities to stabilize the northernmost province of Mozambique, Cabo Delgado, affected by terrorism, a topic that has received constant attention in bilateral consultations. Therefore, among the new areas identified by the two governments to expand cooperation and support the diversification of their respective economies are health, culture, tourism, transport, logistics, mineral resources, technology, and finance. Bilateral relations gained new momentum in 2025 with the official visit of Daniel Chapo to Angola, which resulted in the signing of five legal instruments aimed at economic and social development projects. As part of the celebrations of their 50th ann iversary of national independence, Angola and Mozambique reiterated their commitment to accelerating the implementation of existing agreements, exploring new partnership opportunities, and strengthening regional technology and intra-African trade.
