Luanda: The UN Tourism Secretary-General, Shaikha Nasser Mohamed Ali Alnuwais, acknowledged this Thursday in Luanda the progress made by Angola in the tourism sector and stated that the country has the conditions to establish itself as an important gateway to Africa and the world.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the official made these statements to the press after an audience granted by the President of the Republic, Joo Louren§o, at the Presidential Palace, on the sidelines of the Global Tourism Forum 'Investment Summit Angola 2026', which takes place from June 18 to 19 in the Angolan capital. At the end of the meeting, Shaikha Alnuwais highlighted the commitment of the Angolan Head of State to the development of tourism, a strategic sector for job creation, economic diversification, and the promotion of sustainable growth.
Shaikha Alnuwais emphasized Angola's supportive partnership with UN Tourism. Over the years, the organization has worked closely with Angola on public policies and strengthening institutional capacities. The United Nations official recalled that Angola hosted a meeting of the UN Tourism Regional Commission for Africa in 2014 and, since then, the country has made significant progress in the sector.
Among the advances noted, she highlighted the Dr. Ant³nio Agostinho Neto International Airport, which is considered a strategic infrastructure for strengthening the national tourism ecosystem and reinforcing air connectivity. Shaikha Alnuwais also praised the country's tourism potential, making it a destination of excellence and a privileged platform for valuing the talent and capabilities existing on the African continent.
The official expressed appreciation for the financial support provided by Angola to the organization, stressing that the Angolan contribution benefits not only the country, but also other African states covered by United Nations tourism development programs. According to the UN Secretary-General for Tourism, the investment in infrastructure, coupled with the commitment of Angolan authorities to the sector, creates conditions for Angola to assume an increasingly relevant role in the African and international tourism landscape.

Angola offers vast tourism potential, thanks to its diversity of landscapes, climates, and biomes, which extend from tropical beaches and the vast Namib Desert to the imposing Maiombe Forest and extensive savannas.
