Durban: The Minister of Foreign Affairs, T©te Ant³nio, is representing the President of the Republic, Joo Louren§o, at the 46th Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), which is taking place on Monday in Durban, South Africa. The Summit, hosted by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, is organized under the theme "Resilient, sustainable and inclusive industrialization through infrastructure development, the transformation of essential agricultural and mineral products, for a just world".
According to Angola Press News Agency, the summit convenes the Heads of State and Government of the 16 SADC member countries, focusing on accelerating regional integration and development. Key areas of discussion include industrialization, infrastructure development, agriculture, energy, and the exploitation of essential minerals. The agenda also covers the economic, social, and political situation in the region, evaluating the fulfillment of decisions from previous Summits, and reviewing progress on the 45th Summit's themes, which was held in August 2025 in Antananarivo, Madagascar.
The operationalization of the SADC Regional Development Fund, aimed at financing regional development projects and programs, is another significant point of discussion. Additionally, the summit will tackle issues of food and nutritional security, disaster preparedness and response, and the strengthening of the SADC Humanitarian and Emergency Operations Centre (SHOC). The impact of current global geopolitical developments on the region is also expected to be addressed.
The summit is anticipated to evaluate the implementation of priorities set in the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) 2020-2030 and the SADC Vision 2050. As the supreme decision-making body of the regional organization, the Summit of Heads of State and Government establishes the main guidelines and priorities for cooperation, integration, and development in Southern Africa.
The Heads of State and Government meeting was preceded by a series of technical and ministerial meetings, which began on July 27 with the SADC Annual Industrialisation Week.
