UN Representative Praises Angola’s Role in African Peace Efforts

Luanda: The representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Central Africa, Adbou Abarry, reaffirmed Angola's crucial role in promoting peace and development across the continent during a recent visit to Luanda.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Abarry spoke to the press following a courtesy meeting with the President of the National Assembly, Ado de Almeida. The visit was part of his farewell tour, marking the end of his three-and-a-half-year tenure as the UN representative for Central Africa. Abarry expressed the organization's appreciation for Angola's efforts in fostering peace in the region, both politically and financially.

During discussions with the National Assembly leader, topics related to the political climate in Angola were addressed, especially in light of the upcoming general elections scheduled for 2027. Abarry emphasized the importance of maintaining political stability to ensure successful elections and highlighted the need for Angola to continue its pursuit of unity and inclusion.

Abarry commended Angola's positive contributions to regional peace, noting the country's active involvement in the African Union - European Union Conference and other diplomatic initiatives. He stressed the importance of continuing these efforts under future leadership to sustain Angola's strategic influence in the region.

The UN official also acknowledged the dedication of Angolan authorities in supporting peace and development initiatives in Africa, citing the examples of Sudan and the Central Sahel as areas where Angola's impact has been significant.
