Luanda: The Vice President, Esperan§a da Costa, engaged in discussions on Tuesday with King Mwene Mbandu V regarding the rehabilitation of access roads between Lumbala Nguimbo and Luena. The meeting also addressed the situation of youth in the Moxico province.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the Mbunda traditional authority highlighted the challenges faced by the Moxico population in selling agricultural products due to inadequate access roads. "The farmers produce, but they have no way to get their products to market," lamented King Mwene Mbandu V, emphasizing the urgent need for infrastructure improvements.
The discussions also focused on youth-related issues within the province. King Mwene Mbandu V proposed the implementation of education and training programs aimed at steering the youth away from excessive alcohol consumption and other detrimental practices. These initiatives are expected to facilitate the integration of the youth into both local and national development processes.
Additionally, King Mwene Mbandu V expressed a desire for the inclusion of the Mbunda language in the programming schedules of Angolan Public Television (TPA) and Angolan National Radio (RNA), highlighting the importance of cultural representation.
During the meeting, the vice president assured King Mwene Mbandu V that the concerns raised, particularly those related to access roads, are part of the government's agenda. "The problem lies with budgetary limitations," the king noted. "Nevertheless, the Vice-President assured me that, in coordination with the Minister of Public Works, work will begin next year to approve the budget, similar to what was done on the Cazombo-Luau section. Then, the intervention will be extended to Moxico to facilitate population mobility."
King Mwene Mbandu V, who was enthroned in September 2025 in the village of Lumbala Nguimbo following a vacancy, has since focused on fostering unity among the population and enhancing cooperation with the Angolan state.
