Luanda: The Vice-President, Esperan§a da Costa, concluded a two-day working visit to Uige province on Tuesday, during which she presided over the 1st Ordinary Session of the National Commission for the Safeguarding of World Heritage.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the Vice-President's itinerary included an inspection of the new Uige General Hospital's construction, as well as assessments of Kimpa Vita University and other educational institutions in the area. A significant highlight of her visit was the inauguration of a project aimed at providing 15,000 household water connections in the Kindenuco neighborhood, which marks a considerable expansion in water distribution efforts in the region.
Additionally, the Vice-President toured the Uige Municipal Maternity Hospital to understand its operations better. The National Commission for the Safeguarding of World Cultural Heritage, which she chaired, is responsible for promoting conservation programs and implementing measures to manage cultural heritage of exceptional universal value.
Uige province, located about 345 kilometers from Luanda, is distinguished by its rich natural and cultural resources, boasting attractions such as Lagoa do Feiti§o, Grutas do Nzenzo, and Serra do Pingano. The province is not only a tourism hub but also holds significant potential in agriculture, mining-particularly in copper, cobalt, and zinc-and forestry.
Despite challenges in infrastructure and fuel supply, Uige's 23 municipalities continue to draw investments, especially in the coffee and copper mining sectors, signaling ongoing economic opportunities and development potential in the region.
