Zaire: At least 26,965 girls aged nine to twelve were immunized against cervical cancer in Zaire province during the vaccination campaign that took place from October 27 to November 18 of this year. Speaking to ANGOP on Friday, the provincial supervisor of health promotion, Andrade Lunzayilawo Kianzuaku, said that the vaccination coverage corresponded to 73 percent.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Kianzuaku explained that initially, it was planned to vaccinate 49,586 girls from schools in cities, towns, and urban areas, a figure revised downwards by the Ministry of Health. Kianzuaku noted that the campaign took place in two phases. Due to the low participation observed in the first stage, during which 22,945 girls were vaccinated from October 27 to November 7, the ministry decided to extend it for seven days.
The introduction of the cervical cancer vaccine in Angola aims to prevent the human papillomavirus, which is responsible for genital warts and various types of cancer in women.
