“Only together can we overcome all kinds of challenges and look forward to better future,” said Saied in Algiers

President of the Republic Kais Saied affirmed the firm and shared determination to further foster relations binding the Tunisian and Algerian peoples, out of conviction that “only together can we overcome all kinds of challenges and look forward to a better future.”

In his speech at the opening of the 7th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) on Saturday in Algiers, the President of the Republic, who is participating as a guest of honour in this forum, said “issue of energy is among the challenges, and not the least of them, an issue that has imposed a blockade upon us and has been a hindrance at the level of exploration and prospecting, in addition to orchestrated and crazy price hikes,” adding that “whenever oil flows from a well or a gas field is discovered, ambitions increase, wars break out and blood is spilled.”

“The focus on gas was earlier in history than on oil,” he pointed out, recalling that in Tunisia, for example, the first gas organisation had been
established in the late 19th century and there had been arrangements between the occupier in that period to connect a gas network between Tunisia and Algeria.

“The will of the peoples who liberated themselves from colonialism was and is still striving to impose full sovereignty over their natural resources,” the Head of State indicated, adding that the APEC Summit is a proof and an example of this will for full control and sovereignty over natural resources.

He underlined in this regard, that “the GECF, which was founded in 2001 in Tehran, does not deviate from this context related to sovereignty over one of the most important natural resources, namely gas, and aims, as stated in its founding document, to support the sovereign rights of member States over their resources of this type of energy and their ability to independently plan and manage sustainable, effective and environmentally sensitive development rights and the use of environmental gas for the benefit of their peoples.”

He pointed out that it is
impossible to ignore here the UN General Assembly Resolution 1803 of December 14, 1962 on full sovereignty over natural resources, which states in its first paragraph that “the right of peoples and nations to permanent sovereignty over their natural wealth and resources must be exercised in the interest of their national development and of the well-being of the people of the State concerned.”

The President of the Republic also reaffirmed his full support for the people of Palestine in confronting the Zionist usurper and occupying entity which is perpetrating the most heinous crimes with all means available, until the Palestinian people recover their full and undiminished right to establish their independent State on all the land of Palestine, with Al Quds Al Sharif as its capital.

He added that the Palestinian people are deprived of their sea resources, especially the gas in the Gaza Sea, estimated at 1.4 trillion cubic feet.

The 7th summit of heads of state and government of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), held Saturday in the Algerian capital, was sanctioned by the adoption of the «Algiers Declaration». The document sets out the main axes of the natural gas extraction, exploitation and distribution strategy over the next period.

The objective (aim) is to provide regular supply and achieving global market stability in light of geostrategic changes and liquidity challenges.

In an opening statement at the Abdelatif-Rahal International Conference Center (CIC Algiers), President of the Republic Kais Saied said that the people who fought colonization are striving to impose their full sovereignty over their natural resources. hallenges.

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune called for the need to take concrete measures to continue the development of gas resources. He highlighted the need to continuously encourage investment in the energy field, boost cooperation in the field of technologies and innovation and develop extraction and marketing techniques.

Tebboune also insisted on strengthening dialogue and cooperation between member countries on the one hand and exporters and importers on the other to ensure gas supplies and the stability of the international market.

President Kais Saied said he will meet his Algerian counterpart Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Saturday evening, adding that a Tunisian-Algerian-Libyan trilateral meeting with President of the Libyan Presidential Council Mohamed al-Menfi will be hosted by Tunisia later.

Speaking to reporters at his residence in the Algerian capital after the conclusion of the 7th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), President Saied said that his meetings with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani “provided opportunities to underline Tunisia’s firm position on the Palestinian issue and the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

He stressed that the issue concerns not only the Gaza Strip but the whole of Palestine, pointing out that the Palestinian people are facing the most heinous crimes of killing, starvation and displacement of children and women. The number of marty

He added that the humanitarian community is today far ahead of the traditional international community, as embodied in the demonstrations in Western capitals and all over the world, denouncing this barbaric and brutal Zionist aggression and demanding freedom for Palestine.

The President stressed “the need for the matter of the Palestinian right to take its natural course according to the norms and laws of the earth and the sky”.

During these meetings, the President of the Republic also discussed the economic relations between the two countries, particularly with a view to overcoming the difficulties related to a number of projects in Tunisia.

ISIE announces composition of 24 regional councils by lot in all governorates [Upd 1]

The Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) announced at a press conference on Saturday the composition of the 24 regional councils by lot in all governorates.

The draw took place under the supervision of several members of the authority’s board and officials from its local bodies.

ISIE President Farouk Bouasker said that the sortition process was “highly successful and transparent” and that the minutes drawn up for the purpose were duly approved by the Authority’s Board.

He also announced that 279 local councils held their inaugural meetings on Friday, chaired by the elected member who received the most votes.

Bouasker had told reporters previously said that the final composition will be announced on Saturday evening at the end of the meeting of the ISIE Board, which will validate the minutes of the draw before summoning the members of the regional councils to take up their duties in the various governorates next Wednesday.

The President of the ISIE added that the last and final stage would be t
he election of the members of the district councils and the national council from among the members of the officially announced regional councils.

He also pointed out that members of the regional council could not also be members of local councils.

To avoid this impossible situation, Bouaskar proposed applying the rule of alternation to the mandate of member of the regional council of the governorate every three months by drawing lots.

Speaking about the legal provisions governing regional councils, the President of the ISIE pointed out that the chapter of the Local Communities Code relating to regional councils includes a legal text that is still in force and applicable to regional councils.

This text, added the President of the ISIE, has the merit of respecting both the letter and the spirit of Decree-Law No. 10 and can thereby offer alternatives to the problems of the division of responsibilities, pending a later amendment.

Inscription of Sidi Bou Said on UNESCO World Heritage List under consideration

The possibility of inscribing the village of Sidi Bou Said, universally renowned for its heritage, history and architecture, on the UNESCO World Heritage List was the focus of a working session chaired on Friday by Cultural Affairs Minister Hayet Guettat Guermazi, in the presence of Head of the Cultural Programme at the UNESCO Cluster Office for the Maghreb Karim Hendili.

During the meeting, which was attended by representatives of the various stakeholders – the Ministries of Agriculture, the Environment and Public Works – as well as the Governorate and Municipality of Tunis, the minister underlined the need to join forces and embrace this collective national duty with a view to preserving this village, where the hill has been exposed for years to the risks of erosion and landslides that could affect neighbouring areas, notably the Ennejma Ezzahra Palace, home to the Centre of Arab and Mediterranean Music (CMAM).

Sidi Bou Said boasts all the assets required to be preserved and developed from every point of
view, which is why it is so important to prepare a technical file for submission to UNESCO as soon as possible, she added.

Founded by the Phoenicians, Carthage-Sidi Bou Said is an extensive archaeological site located on a hill overlooking the Gulf of Tunis and the surrounding plain. Sidi Bou Said is part of the site of Carthage, classified as a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1979. However, UNESCO’s instructions have been overridden by the urban development that has taken place from Sidi Bou Saïd to La Malga and Salammbô.

Sidi Bou Said is a major tourist attraction, one of the most visited sites in the Mediterranean, welcoming up to 100,000 visitors a day at weekends and during the summer months.

The economic activity of Sidi Bou Said is mainly based on tourism, with artisans earning their living from small trades.

Pottery And Permaculture Usage, Recipe For Conserving, Regenerating Our Environment

Pottery is one of the oldest forms of art that gained a lot of popularity around the world and is greatly attributed to helping mankind solve some of the challenges he faced.

In the new millennium, pottery has been viewed merely as a decorative art for improving scenery and aesthetics as opposed to helping address and solve some of the challenges the human race is currently facing. For instance it can be an undisputable answer to climate change, pollution, and lifestyle diseases.

For many years, pottery has been a process and the product of developing vessels and other objects with the use of clay and other raw materials that consisted of functional vessels, such as plates and bowls as well as decorative pieces like tableware, decorative items, and sanitary wares.

With the changing technologies and innovations, the world has been fast-moving from traditional earthenware to metallic and plastic products that have greatly contributed to world pollution and climate change.

According to Ms. Robbie Felix, a pe
rmaculturist and Founder President of Planeta Sano, ceramics or pottery are forms of earthenware that have been used since the inception of the art to conserve our environment.

Felix, a Costa Rican native says that the wrong modern mentality that everything should be disposable is what is ailing the world; creating human-made calamities like pollution and climate change.

The Planeta Sano organisation has been supporting women and youth groups in Kenya and Uganda in permaculture activities to enable them to safeguard their local environment as well as embrace traditional methods of agriculture for healthier living.

In Kenya, the organisation has been helping women groups like the ‘Rongo Women Permaculture’ to make pottery for economic development as well as a form of sustaining environmentally friendly surroundings.

In the twenty-first century, most traditional pottery craftsmen and women numbers have been diminishing and the few that have been left can only be found in remote villages across Africa. Felix
says that it is important to pass the craftsmanship knowledge to the future generation on the importance of pottery in conserving our already polluted environment.

She pointed out that in Africa there is a high pool of educated youth that only requires minimum training to help them work in the sectors of agriculture and pottery to generate income.

Damaris Anyago, one of the members of Rongo Women Permaculture group disclosed that by embracing permaculture, the community can benefit from the health benefits and environmental conservation that pottery offers.

The usage of clay pots, for example, to cook meals makes it appealing, softens the food, and adds nutrients like potassium to food which dissolves during the cooking process.

Potassium, one of the minerals found in clay soil, has been known to play very important functions in the human body like allowing the nerves to respond to stimulation and muscles to contract and tighten as well as reducing the effect of sodium (present in table salt) on blood pre
ssure. The mineral has also been attributed to helping to move nutrients into body cells and waste products out of the cells.

Anyago says that the group makes an average of Sh2,000 daily through the sale of pots, a sign that the Migori community has started to appreciate the forgotten artistic lifestyle.

She acknowledges that with the introduction of modern technologies in kitchen wares like metallic pans and plastic utensils, the population abandoned pottery saying that they were heavy, bulky, and difficult to use.

But modern technologies have brought a lot of problems like soil, water, and air pollution, contributed to lifestyle diseases like cancer, destroyed our environment, and brought climate change.

Her encouragement to the public is that they should embrace the usage of clay pots which have been known to be very sustainable and environmentally friendly items as opposed to plastics and metallic products.

‘We are using the metallic sufurias that are usually cleaned with steel wool, and if not clean
ed properly the iron residues can cause health problems if consumed,’ elaborated Anyango.

Meanwhile, the Director and Founder of Sustainable Village Resources, Caleb Omolo, said that they have been working with women and youth enterprises in the country to sensitise and train them on the importance of embracing permaculture and pottery.

Permaculture refers to the development of agricultural ecosystems that embrace a traditional approach to agriculture to create sustainable and self-sufficient food production.

Omolo explained that the aspect of permaculture is bound by three fundamental principles of caring for the earth, caring for the people, and caring for the future.

The practice integrates knowledge and practices from the best traditional cultures like pottery and natural agricultural practices like crop rotation by linking them to solutions to meet human needs while ensuring a robust future.

Omolo acknowledged that the organisation will continue to train and equip the youth with permaculture skills
to help them employ structural thinking, patterns, relationships, and flows to enable them to link solutions together into synergistic plans that work with nature to fit their local conditions.

He noted that by embracing permaculture in our society we can generate plenty of healthy things, share them justly, and limit overconsumption to benefit the whole society.

‘We want to improve the healthy living of our people, conserve our environment, and improve our traditional modes of agriculture to reduce chemical usage that has continuously polluted our soils, rivers, and air,’ said Omolo.

Climate Change Experts Call For Sensitization

Climate change experts have called for increased sensitization of communities on climate change and its effects.

The experts, led by Professor Benard Muok, said sensitization was key in addressing climate change effects, adding that the private sector ought to make investments that generate money to address the menace.

Professor Muok, a climate change expert, said that addressing climate change requires all stakeholders’ efforts.

The Don said that funding is also an integral part of curbing the effects of climate change, despite several proposed actions by climate change experts.

‘Often people think that addressing climate change effects is the work of the government, donors, and NGOs, but we forget the most important player; the private sector,’ he said.

Professor Muok’s sentiments were echoed by Ester Mutua, a carbon market specialist, who reiterated that experts must sensitize the public as part of the solution.

They made the remarks at Tom Mboya University during the close of the second Homa Bay Cou
nty International Investment Conference.

Ms Mutua commended Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga for working with the local communities to develop carbon sinks which she said is a step towards climate stability.

Governor Wanga affirmed that her administration has established a public participation model with climate change committees, consisting of people from villages who are trained as one of the measures of curbing climate change.
