Geneva: Angola reaffirmed on Friday its commitment to multilateralism, to the principles of the United Nations Charter and to the central role of the UN General Assembly as the organization's main deliberative body. The position was expressed by the permanent representative of Angola at the United Nations in Geneva, Ana Maria de Oliveira, during the 39th special session of the Human Rights Council, which analyzed the deterioration of the Human Rights situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to Angola Press News Agency, in her speech, the diplomat stated that the Government of Angola maintains a firm commitment to the promotion and protection of Human Rights and fundamental freedoms, in accordance with the United Nations Charter and current international instruments. Ana Maria de Oliveira highlighted the importance of constructive dialogue and technical assistance as effective ways to strengthen Human Rights, defending an approach based on cooperation and understanding between States.
The representative of Angola rejected the politicization of Human Rights and the selective application of Special Mechanisms, highlighting the need to respect the sovereignty of States and the legal framework of the United Nations. According to the diplomat, dialogue, inclusion and genuine involvement of all interested parties constitute essential tools to avoid polarization and promote lasting and sustainable solutions.
