Angola Seeks Uganda’s Support for FAO Leadership Bid

Luanda: President Joo Louren§o has reached out to his Ugandan counterpart, Yoweri Museveni, requesting support for Josefa Sacko's candidacy for the position of Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

According to Angola Press News Agency, the plea for backing was delivered through a message by Angolan Foreign Minister T©te Ant³nio, who visited Uganda as a special envoy for the Angolan Head of State. This diplomatic engagement underscores Angola's efforts to rally support among FAO member countries for Sacko's leadership bid.

The meeting, held in Kisozi, saw President Museveni affirming Uganda's support for Angola's candidate. He emphasized the importance of unity and solidarity among African nations to safeguard the continent's strategic interests. Museveni also underscored the need for African states to stand together on matters of mutual concern.

The delivery of the appeal is part of Angola's broader diplomatic campaign to garner international support for Sacko's candidacy and highlights the robust political and diplomatic ties between Angola and Uganda.

Foreign Minister Ant³nio's visit to Kampala, part of a 24-hour official trip, aims to bolster the friendship, solidarity, and cooperation between the two nations. During his visit, he is meeting with Ugandan officials to evaluate the current state of bilateral relations and explore new opportunities for partnerships in areas of shared interest.

Angola and Uganda enjoy a historical relationship rooted in African unity, peace, development, and regional integration. They collaborate in various sectors, including diplomacy, trade, agriculture, education, health, defense, and security. The visit is aligned with Angola's strategy to strengthen bilateral diplomacy and enhance cooperation with other African countries, reflecting its national foreign policy goals.
