Angolan Consulate General in Katanga to Drive Economic Growth Through Private Investment

Luanda: The Angolan Consulate General in Katanga is actively pursuing private investment to enhance the agriculture, tourism, fisheries, and extractive industry sectors in the eastern region of Angola as part of its economic diplomacy initiatives.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Ant³nio Miala, Angola's Consul General in Katanga, emphasized the consulate's efforts to position Angola, particularly the eastern provinces of Moxico, Lunda Norte, and Lunda Sul, as a reliable business partner open to the international market. He revealed that the consulate has already established connections with the Angola-DRC Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Congolese Enterprises, both of which have shown interest in investing in Moxico province due to its strategic location.

Miala mentioned that plans are underway for Angolan businesspeople to visit the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to explore business opportunities, especially in the mining sector. Similarly, the Federation of Congolese Enterprises is keen on visiting the eastern region to promote trade.

The consulate is collaborating with relevant authorities to address issues related to fees and customs oversight at border crossings. Moxico's strategic position is crucial to the regional integration envisioned by the Lobito Corridor project, potentially establishing it as a hub for cross-border trade with the Lualaba and Haut-Katanga provinces in the DRC.

The Lobito Corridor's significance for the Katanga region, particularly in transporting products like copper, manganese, and cobalt, was also highlighted. Miala recently held discussions with the Governor of Moxico, Crispiniano dos Santos, focusing on the consulate's integration with border communities, border management, and strengthening institutional cooperation between provincial authorities in the DRC and Angola.
