Luanda: The presiding judge of the Court of Auditors (TC), Sebastio Gunza, advocated on Wednesday in Luanda for the need to introduce Portuguese as an official language in the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI). The judge was speaking at the opening of the 13th General Assembly of the Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (OISC-CPLP), a forum taking place in the Angolan capital, during which Angola assumed the presidency of this body. He emphasized that this will be one of the main areas Angola intends to develop during its term, always with the active collaboration of all parties involved.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Sebastio Gunza stated that the adoption of Portuguese in this international body will eliminate communication barriers, enabling more rigorous assessments of the work of Supreme Audit Institutions (ISCs), both by the legal community and by citizens of the various Member States. "External oversight in action depends on us," he remarked, underscoring the need for greater openness at all levels in the areas of SAI activity, aiming to add effective value to the OISC-CPLP.
He also pointed out the importance of staff training, the incorporation of new oversight concepts and methods in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the reduction of asymmetries between SAIs in different countries. During the meeting, the main conclusions of the technical discussions were consolidated and recommendations were presented to strengthen climate governance in Member States, constituting a direct contribution to public policies for mitigating the climate crisis and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
