Huambo Showcases Economic Growth and Food Security Initiatives at Expo-Huambo

Huambo: The Minister of State for Economic Coordination, Jos© de Lima Massano, emphasized during the opening of the 2nd edition of Expo-Huambo that the event highlights the region's significant role in reducing food insecurity in Angola. He noted that Huambo is setting a national example through its increasing production capacity of essential staples, contributing to the country's economic progress.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Minister Massano stated that Huambo has emerged as a key player in achieving food self-sufficiency. He highlighted the need to further develop opportunities in productivity, agricultural logistics, and industrial product processing to create a robust connection between rural development, industry, and economic growth.

The minister pointed out that the Transforma Aqui project, managed by the Agricultural Development Support Fund (FADA), is crucial in enhancing local industrial processing capabilities. Huambo already boasts the second-largest industrial park in Angola, focusing on food processing, beverage production, and clothing manufacturing using domestic raw materials.

Massano also mentioned Huambo's strategic location within the Lobito Corridor, a major regional integration route in Africa, which facilitates quicker and more competitive market access for local producers. This corridor is expected to boost Huambo's industrial and commercial agricultural sectors.

The minister praised Expo-Huambo for fostering interactions between policymakers, producers, investors, and consumers, promoting entrepreneurship and national production, and encouraging long-term partnerships. The event, held at the Manuel Rui Monteiro Cultural Center, features 257 exhibitors from diverse sectors, including agriculture, telecommunications, banking, and more.
