Luanda: The Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, is currently presiding over the 1st Ordinary Session of the National Council for Roads and Traffic Management (CNVOT) in Luanda. This pivotal meeting is being held in the Meeting Room of the Support Bodies to the Vice-President and focuses on evaluating the nation's road safety situation from September 2025 to February 2026. According to Angola Press News Agency, the session is also dedicated to assessing the implementation of key actions undertaken in 2025 as part of the National Road Safety and Prevention Plan 2023-2027. During the previous 2nd extraordinary meeting of the CNVOT, data revealed that the country registered 6,055 road accidents in the first half of 2025, marking a decrease of 143 incidents compared to the same timeframe in the prior year. In the same period, there were 1,482 fatalities, a reduction of 117, while injuries increased slightly by 31, totaling 8,582. This reflects an overall reduction of 1% in road incidents. The sta tistics further indicate a 4% decline in fatalities, whereas the number of injuries saw a marginal rise of 0.1%. The CNVOT serves as an advisory body to the Head of the Executive Branch on national road safety and traffic management matters. Coordinated by the Vice-President, the council is tasked with promoting road safety and proposing legislation and other measures aimed at addressing traffic issues across the country.
